12/12/18 to 2/12/19 Santee Lakes Resort, San Diego (Part 2)

Highlights from San Diego:

Gaslamp District (Dog Parade); Waterfront; Convention Center Auto Show; Old Town (Christmas Festival, Casa Guadalajara); Torrey Pines, Little Italy

Part 2 of our San Diego blog shares photos of day trips to city neighborhoods. We really liked Old Town and went twice. It also is easy to get to from the north offers free parking at the Department of Transportation offices across the street on weekends, and easy access to the trolly to the waterfront and Little Italy. Little Italy is similar in look to Atwells Ave in Providence and Hanover Street in Boston though it has fewer markets and bakeries.

Taking the trolley into San Diego

Torrey Pines:

The famous Torrey Pines golf course

Walking to the cliffs. Severe erosion is seen all along the coast.

That's far enough

There is a glider port just above the cliffs at Torrey Pines

Walking over a walkway over the Convention Center to the waterfront.

View of the bridge to Coronado.

Looking down at our yacht and Joe's Crab Shack - a great lunch spot for a bucket of crab

The swimming pool at the Mariott on the waterfront. There's a nice outdoor restaurant/bar facing the water too.

USS Missouri

Bob Hope Memorial - complete with an audio loop of him joking to the troops

Our favorite restaurant on the waterfront - The Fish Market

Sunset from The Fish Market

Outside The Fish Market at night

Nicer at night!

Gaslamp District

Three streets of end to end restaurants - mostly on the casual side. A hot spot at night.

Typical view in the Gaslamp.

We were lucky enough to walk into a dog parade being set up as we got there:

One pig joined the walk

Old Town is a great day trip with several restaurants and very interesting historical buildings/museum.

Casa Guadalajara was our favorite Mexican restaurant in San Diego - mostly for the atmosphere.

Great mole!

Lots of shops in Old Town.

Many of the building in Old Town are preserved historical buildings

Dining room in the hacienda

This the Commercial House Restaurant.

A nativity scene in Old Town

After that, there were smores!

An awesome band played Santana in a plaza at one of the open air restaurants.

Inside the old Hotel.

Little Italy

Restaurants everywhere.
